Ireland keeps Mother’s Day on Mothering Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Lent, just like the UK. It falls three weeks before Easter Sunday, so it moves between early March and early April. Father’s Day is the third Sunday of June.

Halloween has its roots in Samhain, the old Irish festival marking the start of winter, and it is still a bigger night here than in most of Europe. It sits under Global days alongside New Year’s Eve.

With so many Irish families spread across the world, days like these are often when everyone rings home.
