Italy keeps Father’s Day, the Festa del Papà, on 19 March, the feast of St Joseph. Women’s Day on 8 March is the Festa della Donna, when women are given sprigs of yellow mimosa. Mother’s Day is the second Sunday of May.

Grandparents have their own day too. The Festa dei Nonni is on 2 October. And on 6 January, Epiphany, children get gifts from La Befana.

Each of these days is a small reason to bring flowers, call home or sit down to lunch together.
